Safety and Concussion Protocol
East Side Sports strives to provide a safe environment for all of the children who participate. Coaches are encouraged to maintain control over children’s behavior and activities at all times. East Side Sports had intentionally made many modifications for league play which are designed to ensure the safety of the players. For example, the size of the ball, the size of the field, and the number of players on the field are dependent on the age of the child and are developmentally appropriate, as recommended by both the AYSO and USYS (two of the major youth soccer organizations in the United States.) As recommended there is NO heading of the soccer ball at any level in East Side Sports. In the event of a suspected concussion, immediate concussion protocol requires stepping away from all physical and mental activities. Rest is essential for the first 24 to 48 hours, followed by a gradual, symptom-limited return to daily tasks. To manage pain, use only acetaminophen (Tylenol), as aspirin and ibuprofen increase bleeding risks, and parents are encouraged to contact their child’s PCP.
